Cotton loop knit (French Terry) is a soft, comfortable and slightly stretchy fabric containing elastane.
On one side the fabric is smooth, while on the other side it has a small loop structure that provides extra comfort and warmth.
This fabric is ideal for sportswear, casual outfits, hats, sweaters, trousers and children's clothing.
Loop knit is breathable and allows natural air circulation, making it a great choice for both cooler and warmer days. A practical and durable fabric with enough stretch for comfortable everyday wear.
Sewing tips:
To sew with cotton knit, it is recommended to use Jersey or Stretch needles. If the knit is very elastic, it is advisable to use Super Stretch needles, which are specially designed for elastic fabrics. These needles have a rounded tip that allows them to glide easily between knit fibres without damaging the fabric. Needle size usually depends on the fabric thickness, but common sizes for cotton knit are 70/10 or 80/12.
