SCHMETZ DPx5 LBR is an industrial lockstitch needle for sewing leather with a LBR (Wide reverse twist point) cutting point. The cut is made at approximately a 45° angle to the thread direction, and the “wide” LBR shape produces a distinctive decorative, raised stitch with a leftward slant.

✨ Why is LBR so sought after for decorative stitching?

• Lens-shaped cross-section cutting point – a clean, controlled penetration into the leather
• Stronger decorative effect (raised stitch) compared to the classic LR
• The cutting effect is achieved above the needle diameter – the stitch looks “marked” and neat

Needle size is chosen based on application, thread thickness and material hardness/thickness: the thicker the thread and the stiffer the leather, the larger the NM. For decorative topstitching on leather, thicker threads and larger NM are often selected.
